Johan Bjurman, a life long Rhode Island resident, has been an artist for more than 35 years. His art education has been based on classical painting and traditional drawing techniques through private classes, associations with other artists as teachers, mentors and friends, and travel in Europe to study. He also worked as a pictorial artist for outdoor advertising which provided him with a foundation for large scale paintings. He created Bjurman Studio which specializes in murals, fine art, trompe l'oeil, and other decorative art projects.
Commissions for private and public projects have included several exterior trompe l'oeil paintings including 8 and 6 story facades in Providence, Rhode Island, a 4 story facade in Poughkeepsie, New York, and a 12 x 80 foot battlefield mural in Gettysburg, PA, in collaboration with Civil War historian, Mark Dunkelman. A number of other projects are located in the City of Providence and throughout New England including interior decoration, hand-painted ornament, and skyscapes.
For more than 35 years, Johan has exhibited oils, pastels and charcoal drawings at numerous galleries throughout Rhode Island.
